March 25, Shamblin Lecture Serieswith Dr. Thomas Long
A message from Dr. Pace:
"Almost two years ago, I heard Dr. Thomas Long preach at the session of the Texas Annual Conference. I knew then that I had to get him to come to St. Luke's. This coming Sunday, March 25, Dr. Long will deliver the Shamblin lectures at St. Luke's. Dr. Long is the Bandy Professor of Homiletics at Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta. He is a dynamic and powerful speaker, and I promise that you will not be disappointed. He will preach at all four services on the Westheimer campus on Sunday morning, and then will share again in worship on Sunday evening at 6 p.m.
In addition, on Monday morning, March 26, at 10 a.m., Dr. Long will speak to staff, clergy, and anyone else interested in the Hines Baker room on the topic of Beyond a Ministry of Presence: Preaching on Innocent Suffering. It is based on his newest book What Shall We Say? Evil, Suffering, and the Crisis of Faith. No reservations are necessary."
March 25, Dr. Roy Heller, whose video series on the book of Jonah is currently being used by St. Luke's study groups, will speak at the Gethsemane Campus at 8:30 and 10:55 a.m. Dr. Heller is an Associate Professor of Old Testament at Perkins School of Theology at SMU and author of numerous professional articles.
