We are saddened by the sudden loss of artist Mark Aguhar. We had the pleasure of working with Mark at Lawndale for the exhibition M4M in January 2011, in what she described as a continuation of her exploration of queer expression and what it means to have grown up gay on the internet (Mark's preferred pronouns were they/she). Mark was born and raised in Houston, TX and received a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin and was enrolled in the MFA program at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Mark was author of the tumblr calloutqueen, where she continued to confront issues of sexuality, gender and identity.

The loss of Mark is a reminder of the many individuals we have had the opportunity to work with at Lawndale at a very early stage of their development as an artist and of the connections and friendships we continue to build with one another. Mark will truly be missed. Our sincerest thoughts go out to Marks' family and friends.
