March, 2012
A fact sheet, newly updated with 2012 data, from the Foundation's Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured provides an overview of Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Program and state-funded coverage eligibility levels for non-disabled children and adults today and how this coverage will be impacted by the health reform law. Under health reform, Medicaid will serve as the base of coverage for the low‐income population and will be expanded to a national eligibility floor of 133% FPL in 2014. This expansion in Medicaid will provide a new coverage option for millions of currently uninsured adults, particularly adults without dependent children. Today there is significant variation across groups and states in their Medicaid and CHIP eligibility levels. As such the Medicaid expansion will have differential impacts across groups and states. The fact sheet is online.
