State of the States 2012
States continue to face a tough economic climate in 2012, but smart policy reforms can help ease these burdens. Susan Urahn, managing director of the Pew Center on the States, discusses some of the top challenges states are confronting this year. States, for example, receive about 30 percent of their budgets from the federal government, and any deficit-cutting measures will affect that revenue. Adding to the complexity will be incoming tax revenues, which have not yet recovered from pre-recession levels.
