The Writer's Garret
needs a HOME
Paperbacks Plus has sold their building, and so come January 5, we could find ourselves
homeless. (Not to worry--Paperbacks Plus is NOT going out of business.) We currently
use about 1000 sq.ft. for three offices and a classroom, and pay a very modest rent.
If you can help, or know of some place that might, please email Thea@writersgarret.org
Jack Myer's Final Book
The Memory of Water
has been nominated for a Pulitzer Prize!
To learn more about Jack and his teachings, join us for the Portable Poetry Workshop
Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 7 PM
You can R.S.V.P. here [mailto:email@example.com?] and we'll send you a reminder,
catch you up to speed, and make sure you get involved.
Note: Jack was a co-founder of The Writer's Garret, husband of our executive director,
and former Poet Laureate of Texas.
AT THE LAST MINUTE!
We may be stealing the title from the late Grace Paley's acclaimed collection of
short stories, BUT DO WE EVER DESERVE IT. READ ON AND SEE JUST HOW MUCH IS HAPPENING
TO US, AROUND US, AND FOR US. As Spenser suggested in his "Mutablity Cantos" published
over 400 years ago--the only thing we can count on staying the same is change!
A Bridge of Our Own

Eleven days of DonorsLanding!
Thanks to some anonymous donors, our board of sponsors, and especially Heritage
Auctions (HA.com), we will be giving donors a second chance to help out by earning
matching funds for our programs. While we are VERY happy with the support on Dallas
Giving Day (!!!! THANK YOU ALL !!!!), we know a lot of you grew VERY frustrated
trying to phone in / log in a donation, but finding yourself unable to connect.
We talked to some donors who "got it," and they have pledged a match that will result
in a much larger percentage of donations made than what we could ever have seen
in September (and we were in the TOP 10 of number of donations made of all Dallas

Untangling our Web
Starting at 11 AM tomorrow, you'll ALSO be able to preview and offer suggestions
regarding our new website. Watch for the link when it goes live on our current

The Writer's Garret was incredibly fortunate to be chosen as one of 13 charities
for this Fall's Dallas Givecamp.
GiveCamp is a weekend-long event where software developers, designers, and database
administrators donate their time to create custom software for non-profit organizations.
This custom software could be a new website for the nonprofit organization,
a small data-collection application to keep track of members, or an auto-email
notification application. The only limitation is that the project should be
scoped to be able to be completed in a weekend.
SO, through the generosity of these wonderfully creative web-geeks (self-proclaimed),
The Writer's Garret joined 12 other local nonprofits to participate in the web-design
and GiveCamp process. We ate well, met interesting people, and saw our website
through several different sets of eyes. THANK YOU, DALLAS GIVECAMP!!!!
ALSO SPECIAL THANKS TO THE EVER-TALENTED KEN MARTIN AT CREATIVE-CREATIVE for designing
our heading montage (and related art) that will grace our website and emails. If
you are interested in contracting with Ken to help you with your graphic arts needs,
email him here [mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org].
