Pamela with TitleGreetings!

Welcome to the Dress for Success® San Antonio newsletter!   As I write this, we are now a couple of weeks into Autumn and today, we are welcoming the first really cool temperatures in our area!  Pumpkin prices are higher than normal and of course, in short supply, due to the Texas drought.  What isn't in short supply though are the needs of the women and children we serve at Dress for Success San Antonio.  Their needs are with us each and everyday.

As you may know October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  What you may not be aware of is that 90% of our clients are victims of domestic violence.  During the last four years, we have seen a 234% increase in the number of clients we have served.  Our doors are open five days a week helping women to feed their families, to find shelter, to help them discover who they are, to help them uncover their potential, to help them identify their dream job, to help them interview and finally to help them look their best at their job!

Thank you for helping to spread the good word about us to your friends and colleagues.  It makes a difference.  We sincerely appreciate the telephone calls asking how to support our organization.  Our ability to help is dependent upon your charitableness.  If you can give of your time, your talent, your warddrobe, or your treasure, your help is greatly appreciated.   If your company is looking for an organization to support this holiday season, I hope that you will share this newsletter with them.  We are always seeking new corporate partners that are committed to helping women survive and thrive!

As summer closed out, we were excited to have the help and support of several local organizations.  Dress for Success San Antonio was the recipient of over 100 cases of clothing from dressbarn!

Akin Gump Straus Hauer and Feld, LLP, held a professional suit drive that was very successful!

We were glad to meet Daiichi-Sankyo representative,  Mary Gunwall!  What a great clothing drive you all were able to put on!  Daiichi-Sankyo learned about Dress for Success after a company conference in Denver, Colorado revealed our wonderful organization to them.  Upon returning to Texas, Mary and her team found us here in San Antonio.

Sugarbear!  What more can be said?  This summer, Rackspace loaned us one of their most prized resources to give an in-service training.  All of our staff were in attendance for the class.  Thanks Sugarbear, for making the lessons on Fanatical Support® fun!

Five Star Cleaners continues to be the premier dry cleaner for Dress for Success San Antonio.  Thanks to a partnership with Five Star Cleaner's owner, Sharlene Thum, customers can drop off gently used clothing for donation and Five Star Cleaners will clean and deliver the clothes for free, and the donor will receive a coupon for dry-cleaning services and a tax donation receipt!

A Closing Thought...

On October 13th, while walking back to my desk, and past a client sitting at a job-search workstation, I overheard her giddy whisper of accomplishment, "I have a job!"  When I inquired what she had said, she whispered it even louder, her eyes were bubbling with tears.  This and stories like these demonstrate the work Dress for Success San Antonio is able to do accomplish with the women we serve.
