Toyota team members to deliver meals to homebound seniors
October 3, 2011, San Antonio, TX – With the help of Palo Alto College, Meals on Wheels has recruited Toyota Motor Manufacturing as their newest meal delivery partner. The new partnership kicks off October 3rd, where each weekday, participating Toyota team members will volunteer their lunch hour to deliver hot, nutritious meals to homebound seniors in the surrounding neighborhood. With over 50 employees already signed up to volunteer, the company will begin with 2 delivery routes and will pick up the day’s meals at nearby Palo Alto College, who has agreed to house a meal warmer so that the partnership can move forward.
“After ten years of fighting senior hunger in South San Antonio, I can tell you that it doesn’t get much bigger than this,” explains CEO Sharon Baughman. “With such a large employee base in an area where we have hundreds of homebound seniors dependent on our services, the commitment from both Toyota and Palo Alto is a true blessing.”
“Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas (TMMTX) volunteers are excited to have this opportunity to support the elderly in our community.” Brandyn Moore, Community Relations Specialist at TMMTX said. “We are grateful to partner with Meals on Wheels and Palo Alto College to provide daily meals to seniors who are in need.”
Toyota Motor Manufacturing is the 20th corporate partner to begin a meal delivery route on behalf of the Meals on Wheels program. Employees find the entire delivery process takes less than one hour and produces very tangible rewards for volunteers.
