Families Get Fit Together

Our second annual San Antonio Sports Fit Family Challenge drew to a close at HemisFair Park last month. We had 1,200 families, almost 5,000 people, exercise at events throughout the summer and eat more healthfully. It was rewarding to know that this four-month fitness program made a difference in many families’ lives. The Chin family, like many participants, appreciated that the program included the entire family and offered nutritional advice. “After four months, we would actually MISS exercising and healthy eating if we stopped. We’re including more fruit and vegetables and fewer processed snacks in our diet.”

Fit Family Challenge is one way we’re fulfilling our mission to transform our community through the power of sport. Congratulations to all the families that participated. Keep moving, San Antonio!

All Can Ski
For 2 1/2 days every August, San Antonio Sports helps people with physical disabilities enjoy waterskiing at SeaWorld’s lake. Started in 1992, All Can Ski was created to provide persons with physical disabilities the opportunity to experience waterskiing. Such disabilities include spinal cord injuries, spina bifida, amputees, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and multiple sclerosis.

Daniel Dickerson’s son Ryan has participated for six years. "Our lives are defined by Ryan's disability and its limitations. For this one day at All Can Ski, those limitations are lifted. For this one day, there is no ‘can't’. These are the moments that help get us through the bad times." For photos from this year’s event, click here.

Ben Baltz traveled from Florida and enjoyed a morning of skiing.
