The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra opens the 2011-2012 Symphonic Series on Sept. 16-18 at Bass Performance Hall, with Music Director Miguel Harth-Bedoya conducting. The program includes Brahms’ Symphony No. 4, Lalo’s Symphonie espagnole and Slapdance by John B Hedges. Highlights:
· Dazzling violinist Augustin Hadelich is the soloist in Lalo’s Symphonie espagnole. In a music world crowded with young virtuosos, Hadelich, age 26, has begun to stand out in a big way. Here’s what The New Yorker had to say about him last year: “Hadelich… has all the fast-fingered brilliance that modern conservatory culture requires; the musicality and the freewheeling fantasy that he brings to bear, though, cannot be taught...Here is a young artist with no evident limitations."
He’s an audience favorite in Fort Worth who also joined the FWSO for its Carnegie Hall debut in 2008. To learn more: http://augustin-hadelich.com/
· This is the first of three concerts that will include new music by our 2011-2012 composer-in-residence, John B Hedges (please note: John B, with no period, is correct). The son of a rock musician, Hedges has wide musical interests and even fronts a funk band on the side. First up is his short piece Slapdance, an orchestral work that reflects his lifelong love for pop music. Listen for influences of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, their bassist Flea and the song “Give It Away.”
