Party Honors Dr. Weedon, Launches Pupcakes Fundraiser and New SNAP T-Shirts

LIFE+DOG Men's Issue Party Honors Dr. James Weedon.

All SNAP supporters are cordially invited to the LIFE+DOG Men's Issue premier party on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, honoring Dr. James Weedon, the man behind SNAP, and featuring the launch of Pupcakes with a Purpose and the debut of the new SNAP T-Shirt collection.

Pupcakes are canine-friendly cupcake treats, and Pupcakes with a Purpose is a two-week fundraising event that will benefit SNAP from August 15th until August 26th, which happens to be National Dog Day. Rover Oaks Pet Resorts in Houston and Katy, Urban Tails Pet Resort in Houston’s Midtown district, and ABC Pet Resort and Spa in North Houston will be selling the specially made SNAP Pupcakes from the wonderful people at Icing Cupcakes. They will also be on sale at Icing Cupcakes in Katy, Texas, and at the SNAP clinic on Durham near I-10. Pupcakes will be sold for $3 each, with all proceeds benefitting SNAP. Full story.

Houston Mobile Clinic Visits Liberty
Event Funded by City of Liberty Open to Liberty Residents Only

Clients line up at mobile clinic in Liberty County

The SNAP mobile clinic returns to Liberty, Texas, for two spay-neuter events in the coming weeks. These events are funded by the City of Liberty and are open only to residents of that city. The mobile clinic program provides free spay-neuter surgery and a free rabies vaccination for dogs and cats from qualifying low-income households.

The clinic will be stationed at the McGuire Building at 714 Main St. at Webster on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, and Wednesday, September 14, 2011. The number of available spaces is limited. If the clinic cannot accommodate all of the clients who show up on a given day, a lottery system is used to establish the order in which clients are processed. The clinic can accommodate between 22 and 24 clients per day. The lottery will be held between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. when the advance team arrives. (There is no point in arriving earlier than 6:30 a.m.) Full story.

SNAP Reaches Out in July
Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program Re-Enrollment Underway

Outreach Volunteer Ria Van Dright with Ace at Houston Dog Sh

SNAP outreach teams were busy in the month of July with a visit to the Houston Dog Show at the Houston Reliant Center on July 20 - 24, 2011, and the San Antonio Pet Expo at the Freeman Collesium on July 23, 2011.

LIFE+DOG Magazine invited SNAP to share its booth in Houston. SNAP was in its own booth at the San Antonio event. Raffles and other fundraisers were held by SNAP and other organizations benefiting SNAP spay-neuter programs. The SNAP San Antonio team provided wellness services and teams in both cities educated and informed attendees about the importance of spay-neuter.

Kroger Neighbor-to-Neighbor Renewal Underway
Your Purchases Can Help the Animals without Costing You a Penny

Kroger logo

If you shop at Kroger, you can help SNAP raise funds to continue our spay-neuter programs every time you shop. It costs you nothing, and it’s quick and easy to do! Just join the Kroger Neighbor-to-Neighbor program and designate SNAP as your nonprofit of choice. To join, print the SNAP Neighbor-to-Neighbor enrollment letter and take it into your local Kroger store with your Kroger Plus Card. The cashier will then scan both, or you can do it yourself at a self-service checkout. Once you are enrolled, Kroger will begin tracking how much you spend each time you shop. When the program year ends in May of 2012, the company will add up all of the dollars spent by every shopper who selected SNAP as his or her beneficiary and compare that total with the total dollars spent by those who selected other nonprofits. SNAP will then receive an equivalent percentage of a $1 million fund that Kroger has set aside for the program. A Kroger Plus Card takes only a minute to get if you don’t have one already, and it entitles you to discounts on all Kroger purchases. Full story.
