Fit Families Enjoying the Challenge
We met so many wonderful families at the Get Fit 4K fun run/walk at Port San Antonio and learned that spending time together, while exercising, made them closer. We all want healthy kids, and parents are their role models. It’s not too late to sign up and join in the Fit Family Challenge fun. Our next free county-wide event is Saturday at Hardberger Park (see story below). If you’re on Facebook, read some of the testimonials on the FFC page from families who participated in the Get Fit 4K, and it will motivate you to get moving!

| Hall of Fame Golf and Tennis Classic |
| Whether swinging a golf club or a tennis racquet, participants in the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Golf & Tennis Classic enjoyed a great day in their chosen sport at the Dominion Country Club. In addition to doubles competition, tennis players were treated to a one hour clinic by top pros from around the city. Thirty teams of golfers played and mingled with San Antonio sports luminaries who are members of the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame. Click here to see photos from the day. Mark your calendars for Oct. 17, 2011 when we announce the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2012 at the golf & tennis classic. || |

| Athletes Find Fencing a Challenge (5/9/11 San Antonio Express-News story) |
| As he once had with many sports, Army Sgt. Timothy Poe has a knack for fencing. He has a blast with a sword in his hand, lunging, retreating, thrusting, feinting.|
It's a sport Poe was happy to discover this year. A gifted athlete, Poe suffered a broken back in a grenade blast in Afghanistan in 2009, and most of the sports he once loved - baseball, sand volleyball - are now off-limits. With a spinal-cord stimulator implanted in his back, he can walk but not run or jump. Fencing is filling a gap.
"It's a challenge. I thought it was just hitting swords back and forth, but there's a lot to it," says Poe, 34. "It takes skill, concentration and a lot of hard work."
Poe got the chance to try the sport through All Can Fence, an adaptive fencing program offered through San Antonio Sports. Read more.
