Fort Worth Star-Telegram

I can't help but think that the probability is greatly increased because of all the cuts that more of these children will be funneled into the criminal justice system."

A Victory for Veterans

The New York Times

The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ordered an overhaul of mental health care for veterans, who are killing themselves by the thousands each year because of what the court called the "unchecked incompetence" of the Department of Veterans Affairs. In a scathing 2-to-1 ruling on May 10, the judges said delays in treating post-traumatic stress disorder and other combat-related mental injuries violated veterans' constitutional rights.

The Beaver: Talk to the Hand; Depression has a rodent's face in this wispy indie drama

Fort Worth Weekly

May 18, 2011

... The movie's portrayal of mental illness resists easy Hollywood clichés. We're never given a definite cause for Walter's condition, though his father's death appears to have been a trigger point. Kyle Killen's script never deludes itself into thinking that the puppet is anything like a permanent cure. Indeed, Walter becomes unstable and violent, and the beaver becomes a malign force late in the film and takes on a menacing appearance.

Book review: 'The Psychopath Test' by Jon Ronson

Los Angeles Times

May 19, 2011

Jon Ronson is fascinated by people who are bonkers. And insane people who appear to be normal, and ostensibly sane people doing crazy things. The British journalist's book "The Men Who Stare at Goats" - about a secret U.S. military wing that hoped to use mind power to walk through walls, become invisible and perform psychic executions - was the basis for the 2009 film of the same title. Now, Ronson's paddling around the swampy parts of sanity again in "The Psychopath Test," a book that manages to be as cheerily kooky as it is well-researched.
