  1.  Can Your Organization Claim the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit?

Did you know that a tax-exempt employer that pays employee health insurance premiums might be eligible to claim a new refundable tax credit worth up to 25% of the premiums paid for the 2010 tax year? Section 501(c) employers exempt under section 501(a) with fewer than 25 employees (more if you have part-time employees), and less than $50,000 in average wages may be eligible. Visit IRS.gov to find out if your exempt organization qualifies and to learn how to claim the credit for the 2010 tax year.

Register today and start off right.

  3.  Dirty Dozen List Includes Exempt Organizations Abuses

The IRS recently released the 2011 "Dirty Dozen" list of the worst tax scams. Once again, the IRS identified the misuse of tax-exempt organizations and contributions among the worst abuses.

The IRS works with the Justice Department to pursue and shut down perpetrators of these and other illegal scams. Promoters frequently end up facing heavy fines and imprisonment. Meanwhile, taxpayers who wittingly or unwittingly get involved with these schemes must repay all taxes due plus interest and penalties.

  4.  IRS and Treasury Invite Recommendations for 2011-12 Priority Guidance List

Notice 2011-39 invites public comment on recommendations for items that should be included on the 2011-2012 Guidance Priority List. The Treasury Department's Office of Tax Policy and the Service use the Guidance Priority List each year to identify and prioritize the tax issues that should be addressed through regulations, revenue rulings, revenue procedures, notices, and other published administrative guidance.
