March, 2011The Witte Museum invites the entire family to join the fun of an Amazing Amazon Family Day, 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, April 2. Investigate the animals who call the Amazon home through hands-on activities. Included with museum admission.
The day starts with Hide and Seek, 10:30-11:30 a.m., designed for families with children ages three to five. Find out how animals hide in the rain forest by creating a camouflage vest and disappearing in a kaleidoscope of jungle colors. Then, capture the disappearing act in a photo opportunity. Creative Camouflage, Noon-2 p.m., is designed for the entire family. Create a master of disguise—an animal that hides and survives while discovering the “life and death” role of camouflage in the Amazon River. All while listening to and mimicking the sounds of the jungle. Visitors also get the chance to see some of the real animals learned about during the Family Day. Zoomagination will be in the Amazon Voyage exhibit from Noon-1 p.m. with live animals including a boa constrictor, macaw, sloth and tarantula from South America.
The Amazing Amazon Family Day is being held in conjunction with the current exhibition, Amazon Voyage: Vicious Fishes & Other Riches, on view through September 5. Take a voyage down the largest river in the world and explore the diverse ecosystems, the vicious creatures known as the Seven Perils and the amazing people who inhabit the Amazon River. Visitors also have the opportunity to see live piranha, Pepper the Amazonian Parrot, poisonous dart frogs, and other species of live fish. There is a $3 surcharge in addition to museum general admission for Amazon Voyage.Fore more information call 210.357.1900 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 210.357.1900 end_of_the_skype_highlighting or visit www.WitteMuseum.org.
