Announcing the 2011 Texas Nonprofit Summit Speakers: Kathy LeMay and Beth Kanter We are excited to announce that Kathy LeMay, founder, president and CEO of Raising Change, will be this year’s keynote presenter. Additionally, Beth Kanter, author of Beth’s Blog, co-author of The Networked Nonprofit and CEO of Zoetica, will serve as our plenary speaker on Friday. Coming Soon: Requests for the 28th Annual Governor’s Volunteer Awards Nominations OneStar joins the Governor of Texas every year in honoring some of Texas' most dedicated community volunteers at the Governor’s Volunteer Awards. For 28 years, the awards have honored Texans who give their time and talents to their communities through volunteerism and community service. These awards allow Governor Rick Perry to recognize some of the individuals, organizations, corporations and public entities that truly embody the Texas tradition of community service.We are currently finalizing the details about this year’s awards nominations process and there will be some exciting changes this year. OneStar’s “It Starts With One” Video Showcased at Lights. Camera. Help. The Nonprofit Film Festival’s Kick-off EventLast Friday, we were honored to show our film titled " It Starts With One" along with 3 other organizations at Lights. Camera. Help.’s Reel-To-Reality event. This event serves as the kick-off of their annual nonprofit film festival. The film festival (held this year between July 28th and July 30th) is the only film festival promoting, supporting and showcasing solely cause-driven films.Lights. Camera. Help. is a nonprofit dedicated to helping nonprofit and grassroots organizations project their message through cause-driven films and videos. LCH uses education, volunteer match programs, screenings and, of course, their annual film festival. Texas Nonprofit Support Infrastructure StudyOneStar, with support from the Meadows Foundation, partnered with Texas A&M's Bush School of Government, led by Dr. Angela Bies, Ph.D., and in conjunction Texas Health and Human Service Commission's Task Force for Strengthening Nonprofit Capacity, to conduct a statewide survey of nonprofits. The intent was to gather feedback on nonprofit perceptions of support, capacity needs and barriers to partnership with government.The survey was a huge success with responses from 711 nonprofit organizations across Texas. Results contributed to a report and recommendations submitted by the Task Force to state policy makers for the 82nd Texas Legislative Session.
