February, 2011Statehealthfacts.org has added data on total state expenditures and the distribution of state Medicaid spending for state fiscal year (SFY) 2009 from the National Association of State Budget Officers (NASBO). State-by-state data on home and community-based services from KCMU and University of California at San Francisco analysis of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Form 372 have been updated. Other updates include Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) analysis of the CMS Landscape File of 2011 data on Medicare prescription drug plans and Medicare Advantage. The most recent data on Medicare Service use, including short-stay hospitals and skilled nursing home facilities, have been added from CMS for 2009. The most recent data on medical malpractice claims have been added for 2009 based on KFF analysis of the National Practitioner Data Bank Public Use File. Also available are 2010 data on medical school graduates by gender and race/ethnicity from the Association of American Medical Colleges. Updated information from the 2010 American Academy of Pediatrics State Legislation Report on states with firearm laws designed to protect children and state laws addressing childhood obesity has been added. Other updates include the latest cigarette excise tax data from the American Lung Association and 2011 data on states with public place smoking bans from the American Nonsmokers' Rights Foundation. Also now available is information on syringe exchange programs from the North American Syringe Exchange Network for 2011.
