Join us for an engaging presentation and discussion by Shirley Boteler Mock about her book, Dreaming with the Ancestors: Black Seminole Women in Texas and Mexico. The author interweaves documentary research with extensive interviews to reveal the history of a unique maroon culture, forged from an eclectic mixture of religious beliefs and social practices. She explores the role that maroon women in Florida, Texas and Mexico have played in shaping and perpetuating this culture born of African roots and shaped by southeastern Native American and Mexican influences.
