Nonprofit Leadership Certificate - Now Accepting Applications, Due Feb. 1
Center for Nonprofit Management and SMU

January, 2011

The Center for Nonprofit Management is now accepting applications for the Nonprofit Leadership Certificate program in partnership with SMU.  Nonprofit CEOs/Executive Directors and exceptional senior/executive staff are invited to apply prior to the Tuesday, February 1 application deadline.

Launched in 2005, this graduate-level professional credential is designed for nonprofit executives looking to focus their leadership skills and get the best from their staff and board.  The program is reserved for an elite group of nonprofit executives who wish to lead with clarity and inspiration and shape a visionary future for their organization.

“The Nonprofit Leadership Certificate program was truly a career changing experience for me and a tremendous benefit to the organization I lead,” said Scott Orr, President and CEO of Christian Community Action (CCA).  “As the CEO of a large nonprofit organization, I was being pulled in many directions and constantly putting out fires, which made me question how effective I was being in my job. The Nonprofit Leadership Certificate program helped me step away from many of the day-to-day details of running the ministry and truly concentrate on my ‘sweet spot’ of being more of a visionary leader, strategic planner and public advocate for CCA.”

Participants in the Nonprofit Leadership Certificate will:

  • Develop their leadership skills based on the best of current theories and practices in leadership
  • Gain insight into their own leadership strengths and styles
  • Build techniques for leading interpersonally, with teams and as organizational change agents
  • Develop strategies for effective coaching and staff development
  • Gain access to a network of experts offering shared wisdom, proven practices, and support

Some of the most valuable things I learned about myself as a leader came from the Nonprofit Leadership Certificate program,” said Stacy Caldwell, President, Dallas Social Venture Partners.

The program consists of 12 courses, offered in eight half-day and two full-day sessions.  In order to receive certification, students must attend a minimum equivalent of 11 courses. The full series is offered twice annually, in the fall and spring academic semesters.  Completion of the Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership series leads to a certificate of completion awarded by SMU Continuing Studies and the Center for Nonprofit Management.

For more information and to register, visit www.cnmdallas.org or call 214-826-3470.  To apply for the program, visit www.cnmdallas.org/smu.aspx.  The deadline to apply is Tuesday, February 1.

The mission of the Center for Nonprofit Management is to build stronger communities by increasing the performance and impact of nonprofit organizations.
