Make every day this legislative session a day for children
Children in Texas have never needed you more. Yesterday, the state comptroller announced our state will have $27 billion less than it needs to maintain schools, health care, and other services for Texans. This is after our state already made deep and harmful cuts in 2010. . .after the recession already left families needing help. . .after Texas already ranked among the bottom states for investments in children. Now—without $1 out of every $4 the state needs just to hold the line on services—Texas leaders say they'll balance the budget with cuts alone. They need to hear that kids, not cuts, are your priority.
For each of the past few legislative sessions, Texans Care for Children hosted a day at the Capitol when lawmakers were asked to focus on children. This year, with so much at stake, we need a different approach. Each one of the 140 days when lawmakers are at work for Texas, they need to hear that children matter. Here's how you can help:
