When Doris, in her early 40’s, tripped over the hose in the backyard she
immediately put her left arm forward to catch her fall resulting in a bad
break in her wrist. She came to the Emergency Department at Atlanta
Memorial Hospital and immediately an x-ray was performed. The break
was detected and Doris has recovered nicely. Doris’ x-ray is just one of
the 800-900 x-rays performed each month at Atlanta Memorial Hospital.
Both of our x-ray machines were purchased in early 1996. One of the
machines needs replacing so we can continue to accommodate patients
such as Doris and all the others because when it is a question of needing
an accurate diagnosis, imaging procedures such as x-ray examinations are
still indispensable. Newer digital x-ray equipment would provide higher
quality images with reduced radiation exposure and produce a quicker
turn around time for the referring physician and the patient.
The cost of $531,676. is a huge expense for a rural hospital located in
Northeast, Cass County, Texas, which is not supported by local taxes.
