The Board of Directors of The Austin Academy, an organization providing adult literacy instruction and coaching coupled with job readiness training and support, is pleased to announce our new Executive Director, Amy Loar. Amy, most recently Business manager of Dionysius Theater in Houston, was also account executive/research analyst for the Education Research Project here in Austin, and served as Project Director of Texas Appleseed also in Austin. She completed her Masters of Public Affairs degree through the LBJ school of Public Affairs and earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Austin.
As Board Chair Jim Buck said about her: “Amy is passionate about adult education and mentoring those from underserved communities. She has terrific assets and experience in networking, fundraising and grants management. We believe she brings the exact set of skills we need next in our Executive Director and we can’t wait to re-introduce her to the Austin Community.”
The Austin Academy was founded in 1994 by Lynore Brown. The Austin Academy is a community based non-profit adult educational service agency that strives to empower at-risk youth and economically disadvantaged adults by teaching them long-term skills necessary to acquire and retain employment; meet the hiring criteria of local employers; achieve economic and personal self-sufficiency; and contribute to the community in a positive manner.
