Generation Texas launches official website
Texas State University

November, 2010

Generation Texas, a program initiated by Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and operated by Texas State University-San Marcos to promote college access for underserved students, has launched a new website at www.GenTX.org.

The site is part social network, part inspiration, and the only resource needed to access all of the important information and dates for college-bound students.

"The launch of the website will make it easier for students to navigate the college going process," said Michelle Pope, director of the Center for P-16 Initiatives which oversees the program. "It is part of our ongoing efforts with the San Marcos community to create a college going culture starting at the earliest possible age."

Crafted by the same designers of the successful Lance Armstrong LiveStrong campaign, the GenTX site features three main sections: How to Prepare for College, How to Apply for College and How to Pay for College.  A prominent feature is are video testimonies of high-school students from throughout the state, offering candid stories of what it means to be a first generation college-going student.

"Through the Blueprint for Educational Change, the E3 Alliance strives to provide the students of Central Texas with knowledge and resources that will help them be successful," said Eliseo Elizondo, director of strategic engagement for Education Equals Economics Alliance, a major supporter of Generation Texas.  "Of course, students today want that information readily accessible, organized and online. The GenTX site is an interactive web resource that will aid students in preparing for and applying to college."

Prospective student can also find a detailed calendar outlining upcoming key dates and events.  The calendar will regularly updated with information regarding test and application deadlines, academic and career workshops, and special local and statewide events.

"The launch of the website will make it easier for students to navigate the college going process," Pope said. "It is part of our ongoing efforts with the San Marcos community to create a college going culture starting at the earliest possible age."
