The Put Kids 1st Awards Luncheon was established in 2005 to honor the founder of Texans Care for Children, Phil Strickland, for his commitment to improving the lives of Texas children. The Put Kids 1st Awards Luncheon continues in this tradition by honoring Texans who exemplify Strickland's commitment. Past honorees include Phil Strickland, State Senator Jane Nelson, Eleanor Butt Crook and Charles Butt, State Representative Patrick Rose, Pat and Bob Ayers, Governor Dolph Briscoe, Jr., Babs Baugh and AT&T.
The Phil Strickland Founder's Award will be presented to Linda Gale and Mark White for their extraordinary dedication to Texas children. Governor Mark White made a central purpose of his administration, from 1983-1987, to move Texas "forward as a state of the future with regard to its most important resource, its children." First Lady Linda Gale White has spent more than 25 years moving Texas forward, through her leadership with Communities in Schools (CIS) and Texans Care for Children.
The 2011 Child Advocate Award will be presented to Frost Bank for its legacy of building community partnerships to benefit Tex
as children. Frost Bank's charitable giving extends to educational, housing, advocacy, and health organizations across the state. Frost Bank president Pat Frost is on the governing board of Voices for San Antonio's Children, a Texans Care for Children member and close affiliate working to improve the lives of kids in San Antonio, and his father Tom Frost, has spent decades leading successful efforts to increase community investments in health, education and children.
The Put Kids 1st Awards Luncheon held on February 9, 2011 at the Four Seasons Hotel Austin benefited Texans Care for Children and its work for over 6.4 million children in Texas.
