A Cause for Glee
Mark Salling (Glee's "Puck"), Dominic Walsh, and Houston Ballet Sign on for CFAC

Plan to join us for SNAPshots 2010 in December!
 Mark Salling,

Big news for all you GLEEks: Actor Mark Salling, who plays Noah “Puck” Puckerman on Glee, has signed on to create a collar for Collars for a Cause (CFAC). Salling is an animal lover and has an adorable little dog named Hank. If you are wondering what a GLEEk is, it is anyone who is a fan of the breakout musical comedy hit Glee on the Fox Network. Mr. Salling is a native of Dallas, Texas, and heard about CFAC through a cousin who lives in San Antonio and is a SNAP supporter.

The dance world has also checked in with renowned dancer/choreographer Dominic Walsh and the Houston Ballet signing on to design collars. Walsh has received international recognition for his classical and modern dance interpretations, and the Houston Ballet was recognized by the New York Times as "one of the world’s best ballet companies." Full story.

Mobile Clinic Programs Change Intake Procedure
First-Come, First-Served System Replaced with Random Lottery

Pre-dawn lineups become a thing of the past under new system.
A new intake system means no more long waits in the dark for SNAP mobile clinic clients.

Beginning in July, clients of the SNAP mobile clinic program are in for a major change as a lottery intake system replaces the first-come, first-served system that has been in place up to this time. Under the first-come, first-served system, those who arrived at the mobile clinic site earliest were the most likely to be able to get their animals sterilized that day. Increasingly, clients were being forced to show up many hours in advance, often well before dawn, to have any level of certainty that their dog or cat would be seen. Full story.

Traveler Changes Socks in San Antonio
Better Future Ahead for Community Cat Thanks to Good Samaritan

Socks: a lucky cat!
Socks is now spayed and has a new forever home!

A San Antonio community cat faces a brighter future thanks to Mr. John Dougherty of Seattle, Washington. Mr. Dougherty didn’t come to San Antonio to help a homeless animal, but when he discovered an unsterilized and possibly pregnant female cat just outside his hotel, he decided he had to act. He started by questioning the hotel personnel and other guests about the cat. He learned that she frequented the hotel’s grounds and was often fed by guests and members of the housekeeping staff. Magda Serrano, center, with Cynthia Boland, left, and Rebecca Loofboro of USA.

Regular readers of SNAPtales may remember that we ran an article a couple of months ago revealing that United Space Alliance (USA) had made SNAP the beneficiary of their 2010 Go Orange for Animals Campaign. That campaign was an admirable success and raised a total of $400 for our spay-neuter programs. SNAP Development Program Manager Magda Serrano went to a check presentation ceremony at the USA facilities near NASA Johnson Space Center on May 6, 2010, to receive the donation. Full story.

Carrie Shoemate poses by media wall at her DVD release party.
Exercise TV personality and Houston personal trainer Cari Shoemate.

Celebrity trainer Cari Shoemate demonstrated a genuine love for animals recently when she made SNAP a beneficiary of the release party for her latest DVD, a move that power-lifted $160 into the SNAP coffers. If you are a fan of Exercise TV, you may know that Cari Shoemate is Houston’s most successful personal trainer, but did you know that she is also an advocate of spay-neuter as a means to reduce the number of homeless animals in shelters and on the streets? She took the opportunity of the release of her new DVD, Exercise TV: Long Lean Legs at Fit Athletic Club to drive home the point. Full story.
