NEISD COMMUNITY ED CLASSES at the Garden:

Tai Chi in the Gardens - Saturdays beginning June 5, 2010 for 12 weeks, 9:00 - 10:00 am, $100

The ancient art of tai chi uses gentle flowing movements to reduce the stress of today's busy lifestyles and improve health. Students may pay $7 admission fee each week at the main gate or purchase yearly admission to the garden for $45.

Gardening for Newcomers– June 5, 2010, 9:00 - 11:00 am, $35

If you have recently moved to this area, you’re very quickly going to find that most of those plants you brought from “back home” won’t grow here. Master Gardener Dr. Tom Harris will discuss soils, plants, fertilizers, plant problems, composting, pruning, turf grass and xeriscaping to help you adapt. Admission included.

Not That Kind of Drip – This Kind of Drip…Irrigation – June 12, 2010, 9:00 - 11:00 am, $35

Drip irrigation isn’t “rocket science” and it’s not all that expensive. You can do all your beds in one morning and ALWAYS puts the water where it is needed and, with a battery-powered timer, WHEN it’s needed. Dr. Tom Harris will show you how to design, build, and install your own drip system. Admission included.

Texas Lawn Grasses – June 19, 2010, 9:00 - 11:00 am, $35

Why is their grass greener than mine? Lawn grasses in our area can be a beauty or a beast. Dr. Tom Harris will discuss the four major varieties of grass that do well in San Antonio, fertilizer, watering, and pest/disease problems. Admission included.

CHILDREN’S FALLVEGETABLEGARDEN:  August 21 – December 4

The Texas AgriLife Extension Service provides an opportunity for children 8-13 in age to learn about gardening by growing their own vegetables through the mentoring of Bexar County Master Gardener volunteers. Each child is allotted a 3.5’x 28’ plot at the beautiful Botanical Garden. Children have fun growing different types of seeds, herbs, vegetables, and ornamental annual flowers. Weekly educational gardening presentations are held to stimulate these young minds. The children also participate in fun, hands-on Junior Master Gardener activities. Cost is $25.

REGISTRATION: For more information and to register for the classes,  please go download the application at www.sabot.org and submit by August 6.
