SAMMINISTRIES RECOGNIZED FOR SOUND FISCAL MANAGEMENT
SAMMinistries

April, 2010

SAN ANTONIO – Navarra Williams, president and CEO of SAMMinistries, announced that the faith-based charity that helps the homeless has been awarded a 4-star rating for sound fiscal management by Charity Navigator.

Charity Navigator President and CEO Ken Berger says, “We are proud to announce SAMMinistries has earned our second consecutive 4-star rating for its ability to efficiently manage and grow its finances. Only 21percent of the charities we rate have received at least two consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that SAMMinistries consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way, and outperforms most other charities in America. This ‘exceptional’ designation from Charity Navigator differentiates SAMMinistries from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.”

Founded in 2001, Charity Navigator has become the nation’s largest and most-utilized evaluator of charities. With a mission of assisting donors, Charity Navigator’s professional analysts examine tens of thousands of non-profit financial documents, and reports they know as much about the true fiscal operations of charities as anyone.

The organization uses its knowledge to develop an unbiased, objective, numbers-based rating system to assess the financial health of over 5,000 of American’s best-known charities.

SAMMinistries, an interfaith ministry dedicated to helping the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless, was launched in 1983. The ministry assists over 600 individuals including 200 children every day of the year with emergency services, transitional and supportive housing, as well as an after-care program. Last year the agency cared for more than 4,500 individuals and provided more than 197,600 bed nights of shelter and services to the area’s homeless. Today SAMMinistries is supported by more than 126 churches and synagogues and over 4,800 volunteers.
