Houston energy magnate Dan Duncan, the low-key tycoon and philanthropist whose rags-to-riches story culminated in his becoming the city's wealthiest man, died Monday. He was 77. … Duncan was also one of the city's biggest philanthropists, ranking in a number of national lists of top givers. He was particularly enamored of medical causes — he gave Baylor College of Medicine $137 million — but also donated to wildlife and conservation organizations, museums and other causes.
