SNAP Needs You at Biannual Fundraising Event

SNAP Needs Your Help at the Spring Bayou City Art Festival!

Spring brings flowers, much needed warmer weather, and the biggest SNAP volunteer fundraiser of the year. It’s the Bayou City Art Festival. You can help SNAP raise tens-of-thousands of dollars to support spay-neuter by volunteering. What do SNAP volunteers do at the festival? They staff the beverage booths. All tips collected go to SNAP as does a healthy percentage of the receipts. Alcohol is served, so all volunteers must be 18 or older. What’s in it for you? First, you get free entry into the festival on the day you volunteer.  Full story.

Anonymous Donors Fund Four New Clinic Dates

Mobile Clinic in Liberty County, Texas

SNAP is excited to announce that our mobile clinic program will be returning to Liberty County, Texas, for a limited engagement. Several anonymous donors have stepped up to fund four trips to the area. The first trip will occur on March 17, 2010. The clinic will be stationed at Stancil Park at 211 Peach St. in Cleveland, Texas. The second trip will occur on March 30, 2010. The clinic will be stationed at Media Publishing at the intersection of Main and Grand in Liberty, Texas. The remaining two trips are yet to be scheduled. They will be listed on the SNAP event calendar when dates and locations become available. Full story.

Annual Walk-a-thon Benefits SNAP Animal Aid Program

Join the SNAP team for AIDS Walk Houston 2010.

Strap on your walking shoes because AIDS Walk Houston is just a couple of weeks away, and SNAP needs you on its team! Studies show that having animals can actually be beneficial for the health of those who are ill, but many with HIV/AIDS cannot afford to care for their beloved dogs and cats. The SNAP Animal Aid Program (AAP) exists to provide free spaying-neutering, free wellness examinations, and discounted wellness services for the animals of those affected by this disease. The AAP is a direct beneficiary of the AIDS Walk, so when you walk the walk, you do your part to support this important program. Full story.

Who’s Your Daddy? Not These Cats!
SNAP Sterilizes Nearly 500 Cats at February Spay-Neuter Events

Hi! I was neutered at Neuter-Scooter 2010!

What do you call it when SNAP neuters more than 424 male cats in a single day for just a nickel each? You call it Spay Day USA!  Actually SNAP calls it Neuter Scooter for a Nickel, but we do it to observe Spay Day USA, which takes place on the last Tuesday in February every year. We could not do it without the generous funding of the Don A. Sanders Family Foundation though.

Now, what do you call it when SNAP spays 54 female cats for free on Valentine’s Day weekend? We call it a great demonstration of caring by Lost Pawses, which funded the event! Between the two days, SNAP sterilized nearly 500 cats! Full story.

Vote for your favorite animal in the Spay Day USA Photo Contest!

SNAP Team Wins Capital One Basketball Shootout
Lacey Perry and John W. Chisholm Score $500 Prize for Spay-Neuter

John W. Chisholm at Capital One Basketball Shootout

If SNAP ever needed a dream team, it was on Saturday, February 20, 2010. Fortunately, we have one! SNAP supporters Lacey Perry and John W. Chisholm are the hoop-shooters in question, and their efforts on that day netted SNAP $500 for our spay-neuter programs! The venue was the Capital One Bank branch in Bellaire, Texas. Nonprofit teams from the Houston area gathered to display their roundball prowess in a Basketball Shootout Challenge. When the shooting was done, the SNAP team won! SNAP is grateful to Lacey and John for showing up and showing off their mad skills to help SNAP win the day. We are also grateful to Paul Pettie and Sophia Arabani Rehman of Capital One Bank. Full story.
