Spanish historian to speak on buildup to Mexico's war of independence
Texas State University

February, 2010

A public lecture on Latin American and Spanish events related to Mexico’s War of Independence in 1810 will be given at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, in Centennial Hall G02.

The lecture, titled “Los representantes de la América hispana en las Cortes de Cádiz de 1812,” will be given in Spanish by María Victoria López-Cordón Cortezo, chair of modern history at Universidad Complutense in Madrid.  López-Cordón, an eminent historian and author of numerous books on modern European history, the history of women, and the history of the family, will discuss Latin American representatives to Spain’s constitutional conventions of 1812, a theme related to the beginning of Mexico’s war of independence in 1810.  Texas State is recognizing this period of history with a series of special events throughout the year.

The event is co-sponsored by the department of modern languages and the department of history.  More information is available from Catherine Jaffe, department of modern languages, who can be reached via email at
