Dear Friends,

We are halfway through another academic year at The University of Texas at San Antonio, and from all indications we are in for exciting times ahead. In the past few months alone, monumental events have placed UTSA in the spotlight and a step closer to becoming a national research university.

Jim and Cathy Bodenstedt donated $1 million to our athletic program for football scholarships. Jim, a College of Business alumnus and Cathy, an art history undergraduate, have stepped up in a big way in support of our football program, which begins play in 2011.

And at UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures, Tim Gette and his staff announced last month that ITC is now an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. This partnership means that the institute will have access to the Smithsonian's traveling collection of national treasures, a move that places ITC among top-tier museums.

Finally, in March, we will dedicate the new $82.5 million Applied Engineering and Technology Building. The facility already has played a big role in the recruitment of some of the best and brightest faculty and graduate students in the critical STEM fields of science, technology, engineering and math.

These are great times for UTSA, and UTSA Update will inform you of additional events and developments on campus as we build a Tier One university for a Tier One city. Thanks for reading.

Go Roadrunners!

President, The University of Texas at San Antonio
