Picture Your World Youth Photography Project Workshop Series Continues
Green Spaces Alliance of South Texas

February, 2010

Green Spaces Alliance of South Texas’s very successful Picture Your World Youth Photography Project continues through the school year with a series of workshops that focus on discovering the unique qualities of Nature’s elements. By examining and exploring these different elements, students will get to investigate earth, air, fire and water. These workshops will be held at sites that are rich in photographic opportunity and intrigue the children. The Picture Your World Program educates children about the world around them. A professional photographer and a professional naturalist help students fully explore their natural environment through the eye of a camera lens.

Classes for 8-12 year olds take place in the morning and 13-18 year olds in the afternoon. Students may borrow digital cameras or bring their own. Cost is $10 per class for the children of Green Spaces members; $15 per class for non-members.* Participants may register online at www.greenspacesalliance.org with payment submitted by credit card. Registration forms may also be downloaded, completed and mailed or faxed. Payment by check should be mailed to

P.O. Box 6250, San AntonioTX78209

. Fax number: 210-222-8022. For more information, call 210-222-8430 or email info@greenspacesalliance.org.

Photo Contest

The workshop season ends with a photo competition in the spring. A total of $1,200 in cash prizes will be given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in the two age group categories: 8-12 years and 13-18 years. The competition calls for original images of nature, including wildlife, landscapes, people enjoying nature, environmental hotspots, texture and designs in nature and the diversity of nature. Images will be judged based on originality of subject matter, use of light, exposure, framing and composition.

Contestants may submit a CD or email five original images that capture the many aspects of nature in Bexar, Kendall, Comal, Guadalupe, Wilson, Atascosa, Medina and Bandera counties. There is a $10 entry fee.* Mailed entries can be sent to

P.O. Box 6250, San AntonioTX78209
while emailed entries can be sent to info@greenspacesalliance.org. Payment may be made by credit card online or by mailing a check. Entries are due Friday, April 9th. Please note: Students do not need to attend the workshops in order to enter the contest.

Picture Your World is one of Green Spaces Alliance’s numerous programs that focus on promoting community awareness. It aims to demonstrate the need for conservation through images that reveal the interconnectedness of earth, water, sky and the creatures living in the environment, including man. Picture Your World is being coordinated for Green Spaces Alliance by art educator Sherry Christensen.
