 NOTE FROM TAMARA

true north Dear friends:

2010 is in full swing at Girlstart and we have much to share with you. I hope you caught our colleague Katelyn on Fox 7 news, but in case you did not, here are some fun experiments that you can do at home. Check out our blog for materials and activity instructions for more family science!

The Expanding Your Horizons Girls Conference is on April 17! If you'd like to attend, or be a presenter, please check out our EYH website, www.eyhaustin.org.

Also, we are thinking about new schools with which to partner for next year's Girlstart After School programs. If your principal is interested in learning about after school STEM programs, feel free to contact us! Also, Girlstart Summer Camps are being planned outside of our region. If you are outside of central Texas and want Girlstart Summer Camp in your area, we would love to help bring high quality STEM programming to you!

Join us at our next Open House (February 16 @ 11.30am) and learn about what we are doing to advance STEM education and careers for girls in Central Texas and beyond!!

Best wishes for the second month of a great 2010. We're off to do some science fairs and family events today and this weekend. Hope to see you around!

Tamara

true north Special thanks to Stacy Haynes who volunteers to put together our email newsletters. We appreciate her dedication and help with our monthly email newsletters.

Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) careers are needed to lead workshops at this year's Expanding Your Horizons 2010 Girls Conference on Saturday, April 17th at UT Austin. Fill out the presenter application online here or contact Alyssa for more information.

Volunteers help Girlstart with spring cleaning, organizing, technology, web design, painting, renovations and more! If you are interested in volunteering with Girlstart behind the scenes, contact Julie Shannan. We could use your talents!

 DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that sharks do not have a single bone in their bodies? Instead they have a skeleton made up of cartilage; the same type of tough, flexible tissue that makes up human ears and noses. Join us this summer for Dive In and Motion in the Ocean Summer Camps to learn more about the creatures of the sea. Registration is now open and don't miss out on early registration discounts: www.girlstartcamp.org.
