Herff Farm Designated as One of Texas' MEP

The Herff Farm has been recognized as one of Texas’ Most Endangered Historic Places, and we recently learned it will also be listed in the National Register of Historic Places. With Cibolo Creek running on one side of it and Menger Creek on the other, the farm reminds us of the reason our ancestors came to the Hill Country – the pure, abundant water they found here. Because of its role in sheltering these water resources, the farm is part of the Cibolo Corridor Conservation Initiative, an important project of the Cibolo Nature Center.

History in the Making

The designation of the Herff Farm as one of Texas’ “Most Endangered Places” is a milestone in a decade-long struggle by the Cibolo Nature Center to save this ecologically and historically important property.  We started raising funds to purchase the Farm in 2000, and many generous friends, community leaders and foundations responded. By the end of 2009, we had paid all but $500,000 of the $2.55 million price.  CNC’s staff and board members hope the designation will bring attention to the campaign, so that we can finish paying off the debt and start using the farm property as an extension of the nature center.
If you, or anyone you know, would like to make a contribution to the Herff Farm fund, please go to the “Support the CNC “ section of our website -- -- or call us at (830) 249-4616.
