    Adopt A Family

This time each year, we begin to receive calls from generous individuals, families and groups who want to "adopt" a GRACE client family for the holidays. While we are so appreciative of their desire to help, we have to be conscious of issues such as maintaing client privacy and dignity. These types of "adoptions" can also lead to inequities in what is given to each family. Additionally, our clients have an opportunity to provide gifts for their family through our Christmas Cottage program. This program preserves the dignity of these families as they "shop" for and select gifts that are appropriate for their family while also maintaining their privacy.

This year, we asking those who are interested in adopting a family to think more long term. Some of the biggest challenges we face when assisting our Transitional Housing families are ones that require cold, hard cash, such as car repairs, school tuition, books and other related expenses. If you interested in learning more about helping our families with these more far reaching challenges, please contact GRACE Executive Director, Shonda Schaefer at 817-488-7009 x138 or via email at sschaefer@gracegrapevine.org.

    Clothing Room Receives Coat Donation

Our thanks to Aéropostale! This week, the GRACE Clothing Room was blessed with a delivery of over 240 coats of various sizes from Aéropostale! The donation is part of their outreach partnership with One Warm Coat in which Aéropostale is donating 100,000 coats specially designed for this effort. According to the company's press release, the donation "is the culmination of Aeropostale's year long initiative to improve the lives of the growing number of homeless teens throughout the United States and Canada."

Specially designed coats for donationThis donation will have an enormous impact of the clothing rooms ability to serve families as cold weather becomes more frequent. Please join us in thanking Aéropostale and One Warm Coat for including GRACE among the 120 agencies that were selected from across the nation to help with distribution!

    A Unique Birthday Party
    Alison Babb, Special Events Coordinator

Daisy Grace poses with the donated socks!Claire Doddridge, a GRACE volunteer, recently planned a birthday party for her daughter, Daisy Grace.  Daisy and her friend, Lilly, wanted to have their fourth birthday party at Chucky Cheese, but with a twist.  Instead of requesting new toys, dolls and clothes, the two girls wanted their friends to bring socks for GRACE clients.

We were totally blown away with the unselfishness of the girls to give up getting presents at their princess themed party and give clothing to GRACE clients.  What an inspiration!  A big thank you to Daisy Grace and Lilly Rose for thinking of us on their birthday during this busy holiday season!

If you have any questions or would like to host an event to benefit GRACE, please call Alison Babb at 817.305.4654 or email her at ababb@gracegrapevine.org.
