Alice Walton, heir to the Wal-Mart fortune, has once again topped Texas’ list of the wealthiest citizens, according to Forbes magazine's latest “400 Richest Americans 2009” report.
Walton of Fort Worth is the wealthiest Texan with a net worth of $19.3 billion. Walton is followed by Michael Dell, who is the second wealthiest in the state with a net worth of $14.5 billion.
But even the richest are not as rich as they were last year.
This year's Forbes' list of the 400 Richest Americans reveals that the cumulative wealth of the individuals ranked has dropped nearly 24 percent in the last year to $1.27 trillion. The wealthiest man in the nation remains Microsoft founder Bill Gates at $50 billion, followed by investment guru Warren Buffett at $40 billion.
