The Heart Gallery of Central Texas Video, Behind the Scenes with Photographers and Families
On September 17th, 2009, the Adoption Coalition of Texas unveiled its 5th Heart Gallery of Central Texas, containing 110 portraits of 144 children. Since this was our 5th year, we wanted to do something special and highlight the effort photographers put into this project and the project’s impact. Amy Hadley created a beautiful video about The Heart Gallery of Central Texas, showing families who fell in love with pictures, a photographer’s experience and in general, what the project is all about. Please take a moment and watch this video. It is available on our home page www.adoptioncoalitiontx.org or by the link below:

Thank you Heart Gallery of Central Texas Sponsors & Volunteers
A huge thanks to everyone that volunteered to make The Heart Gallery of Central Texas unveiling a huge success!! Without you, we would never be able to pull this off!!!
Need location for October for The Heart Gallery of Texas
We have the months of November, December and January covered. However, we still need a location for the month of October. We would like a venue open to the public where we can hang these portraits. This location can be anywhere in the Central Texas area. If you have ideas, email me at email@example.com

Welcome Jennifer Borget to Forever Families
We have a new reporter working with the Forever Families segment – Jennifer Borget. We are thrilled that she is joining this effort. Make sure to watch Forever Families on News 8 Austin on Sunday’s (also can be viewed in Killeen and Waco). You can also check out the segments on our website – www.adoptioncoalitiontx.org. Just click on Forever Families on the left.
Save the Date – Match/recruitment event – November 12
We are once again hosting our Match Party, where we bring families and case workers together to talk about children. However, this time, we are expanding the scope of what we are doing. On November 12, from 4pm – 7pm, we will also host a recruitment event.
Basically, we are going to meet two needs: 1) connecting families already in the system with case workers; and 2) having representatives from child placing agencies available to talk about the process to anyone new to foster care adoption. All are invited.
Please spread the word.
The event will be located at Bannockburn Baptist Church, 7100 Brodie Lane, Austin, 78745. They are letting us use their gymnasium so we will be able to have case workers representing children on one side, and child placing agencies ready to talk about the process on the other. We’ll have food. You can bring your children, no problem.
We will put out more details as it gets closer. Feel free to email with any questions.
KIDS CORNER – MEET DAMIEN – 12
Click here to watch the video on Damien and hear what he has to say!
Damien, 12-year-old ball of energy and future scientist
The Austin Children's Museum was a great place for 12-year-old Damien to experiment with science, his favorite subject.
"I'm a tinkerer," he said, meaning he tinkers around with things until they work. "I like fixing stuff."
He also likes building things. Damien said he'd like to be a mechanic. He explained how to put a knocker on a wall using screws and bolts and gave me encouragement when I wasn't so sure what I was doing.
"That's the fun in it. You can make a table. You can end up making a robot, which I'm trying to make right now," he said.
Damien wants a family who can keep up with him, because he's always on the move and needs someone to help him direct his boundless energy and creativity.
"Maybe I could have a laboratory or something," he said. "Build a hovercraft."
But this future scientist doesn't ask for much in a family.
"If they're nice at least, nicer than my parents," he said.
He says he hopes for a permanent home, with a few qualities.
"Good food, pets that I like, like cats and dogs, and other furry creatures," he said.
Good food includes things like vegetables, unlike what you may hear from most kids, he says that's one of his favorites.
"How else would I do flips?" he said.
And as far as siblings go, "A sister would be fine, as long as she doesn't pull my hair," Damien said.
But when it comes down to it, Damien says there's one thing he wants most.
"You have to have something in your life that's important, like families," he said.
