Texas State enrollment reaches record 30,816
Press Release

September, 2009

SAN MARCOS – Michael Heintze, associate vice president for enrollment management and marketing at Texas State University-San Marcos, reported that Texas State’s 12th class day enrollment reached 30,816, an increase of more than 1,700 students compared to the previous record of 29,105 set last fall.

“It has been a remarkable year and we feel fortunate that Texas State continues to grow in popularity among graduate and undergraduate students,” said Heintze.

“This fall’s freshman class of 3,667 is easily the largest and most diverse in Texas State’s history,” Heintze said.

Diversity among entering freshmen reached a record 36 percent, with 27 percent of the class being Hispanic students.  A record 3,301 transfer students also enrolled.  Overall, undergraduate enrollment rose 4.8 percent to 26,011.

The Graduate College also recorded a record enrollment of 4,198—an increase of 12.1 percent over 2008.

The Round Rock High Education Center enrolled 1,737 students, which represented a 14.1 percent increase over the previous year.

“The increase in new undergraduate and graduate students, combined with a record retention rate helped us achieve this year's enrollment.” Heintze said.

“We are certainly pleased with this year’s record enrollment and how it supports our state's Closing the Gaps initiative.” said Perry Moore, provost and vice president for academic affairs.  “I am particularly proud of our deans, department heads and faculty, who provided sufficient classes to accommodate student needs.”

Texas State President Denise Trauth said, “I am very pleased that so many outstanding students have chosen Texas State to continue their education.  In the coming year, we will continue to work closely with our students, faculty and staff to address the challenges of a growing enrollment, and ensure that the academic experience of our students is not only preserved, but enhanced.”
