More than six months after President Barack Obama signed it into law, many economists have suggested the money has contributed to a mild upturn in the economy. Some have said it helped avoid a sharper downturn. Neither view is supported by much data about the stimulus money itself.
Some economists question whether the package is achieving or will ever achieve the twin goals set out for it by the president and Congress: to provide a swift jolt to the economy and to create or spare millions of jobs.
