Funds Will Help Texas Nonprofits Be Energy-Efficient

IRVING, Texas, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- First Choice Power awarded 25 Texas nonprofits Reduce Your Use Grants((TM)). The $2,000 Reduce Your Use Grants provide funding for energy-efficiency products and services to reduce nonprofits' energy usage and costs now and in the future.

"By awarding these grants to nonprofits, we help our community decrease their energy use, be more energy efficient leaving more resources for their mission and clients," said Brian Hayduk, president of First Choice Power.

The following Texas nonprofits located in communities served by First Choice Power applied and will be receiving funds:

  • Brazoria County Alliance for Children will purchase Energy Star appliances
  • Clifton Chamber of Commerce will replace its lighting system;
  • Henderson County Help Center will purchase box fans for clients in need;
  • Healthy Communities of Brownsville will lead energy-efficiency workshops for new homeowners; and
  • Lake Jackson Historical Association will use its grant to weatherize the museum's historic 1943 Office Museum.

"By replacing the older and less efficient laundry equipment, we will gain the double benefit of reducing our use of water and electricity," said Barbara Boyett, executive director of Avondale House, a 2008 and 2009 Reduce Your Use Grant recipient in Houston.
