Discounted hotel registration is also available until November 7, 2009. OneStar has negotiated the rate of $100 per night, per room. This discounted rate can be purchased online through the Sheraton Dallas Hotel.

OneStar invites vendors to participate in the 2009 GNLC Exhibit Hall. "Volunteering in America" Study

The Corporation for National and Community Service recently released their annual "Volunteering in America" report. While volunteer rates across the country remained level or increased, volunteer rates in Texas decreased slightly. However, national service remains strong in Texas, with over 94,000 people serving in 279 programs through AmeriCorps*VISTA, Senior Corps and AmeriCorps*State and National programs.

The full report can be read at VolunteeringinAmerica.gov.

OneStar's press release on the report and on Texas' volunteer statistics can be found on our News page. In addition, OneStar President and CEO Elizabeth Seale has written a blog post about the report titled "'Volunteering in America': A Call to Action for Texas."

I AM AmeriCorps

"I AM AmeriCorps" Portrait Project

The "I AM AmeriCorps" Portrait Project is an awareness campaign to recognize the millions of individuals who build and strengthen communities through AmeriCorps. There are currently over 600 portraits of alumni, members and supporters in the project. The goal is to build the collection to at least half a million photos, which will be a symbol of the power of service.

"I AM AmeriCorps" is issuing a challenge to all State Commissions to see who can collect the most photos during the month of August. Help OneStar reach our goal of having 1,500 pictures submitted by August 31!
You can get involved in the project in just a few simple steps.

  • OneStar has created a Texas-themed "I AM AmeriCorps" sign. Download the sign from our Web site and take photos of your local AmeriCorps supporters (members, alumni, staff, friends and more) holding the sign.
  • Join the "I AM AmeriCorps" Facebook group.
  • Upload your photos to the "I AM AmeriCorps" Facebook group, making sure to label them "OneStar Foundation."
