Registration Opens for 2009 Governor's Nonprofit Leadership Conference
The 2009 Governor's Nonprofit Leadership Conference (GNLC) will be held from December 9 - 10, 2009, in Dallas, Texas. GNLC is the state's largest nonprofit conference, gathering volunteer managers, nonprofit professionals, state agencies and faith-based and community organizations from across Texas. The conference will feature internationally recognized social entrepreneurs Robert Egger of DC Central Kitchen and Andrew Wolk of Root Cause, as well as numerous special events, networking opportunities and an innovative roster of seminars.
Regular registration is available until November 23, 2009. Early registration for GNLC is available until October 5, 2009, through Regonline. The discounted rate of $275 (down from $295) is available with the following code: EARLY
Discounted hotel registration is also available until November 7, 2009. OneStar has negotiated the rate of $100 per night, per room. This discounted rate can be purchased online through the Sheraton Dallas Hotel.
OneStar invites vendors to participate in the 2009 GNLC Exhibit Hall. This hall will give capacity-building vendors from both nonprofit and for-profit organizations the chance to interact directly with between 500 and 700 conference attendees. Nominations Due Soon for 2009 Governor's Volunteer Awards
Do you know an outstanding individual, organization, corporation or state employee who volunteers? If so, nominate them for the 2009 Governor's Volunteer Awards! Our GVA Web site lists the award categories and has a downloadable copy of the nomination packet. The nomination deadline is August 28.
"Volunteering in America" Study
The Corporation for National and Community Service recently released their annual "Volunteering in America" report. While volunteer rates across the country remained level or increased, volunteer rates in Texas decreased slightly. However, national service remains strong in Texas, with over 94,000 people serving in 279 programs through AmeriCorps*VISTA, Senior Corps and AmeriCorps*State and National programs.
