Registration now open for NAM's affordable computer and language classes
The Rotary Learning Center at Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM) is currently registering students for its summer language and computer classes. The six-week summer session will run July 6-August 14, and students may register through July 6.
All classes will be held at NAM's Rotary Learning Center (15555 Kuykendahl, 4th floor). Fees for the courses range from $35-40 and include all required materials.
Four computer courses will be offered:
Students will be introduced to computer terminology, keyboarding
- Introduction to Computers - Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-10:30 a.m.
basics and have a brief introduction to the internet and web-based email
that will enhance their understanding of computers and aid them in
future employment environments.
Students will learn the basic functions of this spreadsheet
- Microsoft Excel - Mondays from 8:30-11:30 a.m.
program, including fundamental accounting, creating charts and managing
a check book.
Students will learn the basics of this industry-standard
- Microsoft PowerPoint - Tuesdays from 1-4 p.m.
business presentation program by creating slideshows and presentations
with text, sounds and photos.
Students will create letters, resumes and simple flyers with
- Microsoft Word - Mondays from 12:30-3:30 p.m.
this industry-standard word processing program.
Students interested in learning conversational English or Spanish are
encouraged to sign up for the self-paced Rosetta Stone computer software
classes. These classes are self-led, but bi-lingual classroom
facilitators will be available to answer computer or software questions
from students. English classes are Wednesdays and Thursdays from
12:30-2:30 p.m. Spanish Classes are Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3-5
The Rosetta Stone software enables students to work at their own level
and at their own pace. If students miss a session, they can continue
from where they left off. The course uses audio and visual approaches
illustrating lessons with pictures, words and audio of native speakers.
