|NOTE FROM JULIE|
Summer Camp season is one of my favorite times of the year! Every week girls come to Girlstart to explore science, math and technology in new and fun ways. Every day we get to see girls get excited about these subjects and want to try more. This is why Girlstart exists: to inspire girls to LOVE math, science and technology. And we are succeeding at it!
Last summer 93% of girls reported that Girlstart encouraged them to think about career opportunities in science, technology, math and engineering (STEM) and 91% of girls reported Girlstart made they feel better about themselves. When girls gain confidence in STEM they gain confidence in themselves. Empowered girls grow up to become empowered women!
Summer Camp starts next week and we are only $1500 from reaching our fundraising goal for the Rachel Muir Scholarship Fund. Help us offer as many scholarships as possible by donating today in Rachel's honor.
Also starting this summer, Girlstart will host monthly open-houses to give the community a behind the scenes look at all of great work Girlstart is doing for girls in the Austin area. Contact Robin Murphy if you are interested in attending one of these amazing events to find out how to get more involved.
Have a safe and fun summer!
Interim Executive Director, Girlstart

Spaces still available for Crazy Concoctions summer camp!
Girlstart Summer Camps are filling up fast! Spaces are still available for Crazy Concoctions. Campers will become the chefs in Girlstart's kitchen lab, exploring the chemistry behind cooking and food engineering. Girls will create their own pasta flavoring, discover the different leavening ingredients, determine how cream and sugar are used at different temperatures to create treats, and more! In addition to getting their hands dirty in the Food Engineering Lab, girls will design their own interactive cookbook to share their creations. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Girlstart served over 350 girls and families through our 2008-2009 Workshop Series! Participants explored constellations at our Starry Science Extravaganza, dissected a sheep's brain, made dry ice ice-cream, discovered pH levels in makeup foundation, and learned the science behind boo bubbles! Girlstart's workshop season was a huge success in empowering girls in math, science, and technology. Check the website in early August for the 2009-2010 Workshop schedule!
